The barrel is finished in deep black resin and then engraved line by line with the guilloche pattern — the same ornamental technique historically used on fine watches and the legendary Fabergé eggs — before being hand-lacquered and polished to bring the engraving into sharp relief against the dark surface. On black, the pattern reads with particular clarity: the interplay of light and texture across the barrel is more pronounced than on any other colour in the range, and the overall effect is closer to a fine instrument than a pencil.

The pencils are full-length at 132 mm with a 9 mm diameter, pre-sharpened and graded B — a soft, dark, smooth grade well suited to journaling, expressive handwriting, and sketching.
