The Hi-Uni is Mitsubishi's finest pencil — the one at the top of a range that already sets the standard for Japanese graphite, and widely regarded as one of the best wooden pencils made anywhere in the world. The graphite core is produced using Mitsubishi's proprietary process, which reduces carbon particle size to an exceptionally fine and uniform distribution throughout the lead. The result is a smoothness that is immediately apparent — a creamy, gliding quality that no standard pencil formula can replicate, combined with a darkness and density that makes even harder grades write richer than expected. At 2B, that combination is at its most expressive: a soft, dark, velvety stroke that responds to the lightest pressure and builds effortlessly into deep, rich tones for shading and sketching.

The hexagonal cedar barrel is finished in a deep burgundy lacquer — extra-thick, high-gloss, and smooth to the touch — with gold foil grade stamping that gives the Hi-Uni a quietly luxurious presence on the desk. The lead is precisely centred and glued throughout the casing, making it break-resistant through sharpening and consistent right to the tip. The 2B is particularly well suited to sketching, life drawing, tonal work, loose journaling, and expressive handwriting. Sold unsharpened, one dozen per cardboard box.
